The most haunted place in Dorset with its rich history, made Poole the obvious place for a ghost walk. Step behind the Quay, down the lanes and through the tight alleyways and you never know what, or who you might meet.

Now in its twenty first year, local Victorian character Granny Cousins will take you on an entertaining and informative evening walk and tell you about some of the people that have lived, worked and……..haunted this ancient fishing port. Blood curdling invaders, enraged traders and drunken pirates, they've all been here.

Often heralded as Poole’s unknown tourist gem, she is also available for additional group bookings.

Be prepared for anything!

'Small Victories' - Swindon Women Pioneers

Written by

It's a real treat to be asked to work on somebody else's project.

I met up again with Emma Powell whilst devising 'Land' in the early summer of 2017 and along with Becca Lewis we've been having great fun piecing together:

'Small Victories'

https://www.facebook.com/smallvictoriesproject/

at Swindon's amazing Museum and Art Gallery

http://swindonmuseumandartgallery.org.uk/organizer/becca-and-emma-small-victories/

Saturday, 10 February 1.00 pm - 1.45 pm  5.00

Sunday,   11 February 1.00 pm - 1.45pm  5.00

'Small Victories' is a story telling show for families about two Swindon women-mechanical marvels, music and a daring factory break-in.

Oh, and one pesky piglet
We have used objects and archives to create this story for families, following on from the workshops that we ran at the museum in October. There will also be an accompanying exhibition at the museum.
4 performances over two days - Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th February.  Tickets available via Eventbrite.

ACCESS INFORMATION: The performances are in Swindon Museum's large art gallery, up a flight of stairs. All performances will have sign language interpretation.
The project has been run in partnership with Swindon Museum and Art Gallery, with the help of volunteers and support from Arts Council England and Swindon Does Arts.

Halloween Ghost Walks with Granny Cousins

Written by

Well I'm well into the Halloween shenanigins with 7 days of telling Ghost Stories to thousands of visitors at Corfe Castle. I love my work with the Nataional Trust - the steady flow of cross generational visitors, welcoming and dedicated volunteers and staff and of course the stunning natural and man made beauty that surrounds you all 360 degrees.

There's the constant sqweals of teddy bear zip wire and the menacing threat of the Trebuchay, but we all enjoy huddling together, telling scary tales (age appropriate of course!) and having a little jig and a dance.

This year I've collaborated with the lovely Alice Flynn, a local writer, performer and constant ray of sunshine. Alice worked with us to create a very well received Medieval Tryptic at Corfe Castle for 2016 including the harrowing story of the 'Pelican in her piety' and it was great fun to create additional tales to my existing cache of ghoulish yarns.

Then of course there's teaming up with my right hand man good ole 'Red' (Colin Phillimore on our special 'Halloween Ghost Walks of Old Poole Town'. Although I've been doing the Ghost Walks for 20 years this has been for the summer holidays and group bookings (yes we're always available for your special occasion) -we've had a couple of Hen Nights, and several Social Clubs for local businesses, friendship groups etc. We've even developed special walks for Hamworthy, Wimborne and Christchurch. But the Halloween Walks are literally by popular demand. We were getting so many calls asking when we were doing them we thought - well might as well!

Goodly folk come all dressed up (we even had a man in full Wolverine facial fur one year) and bring lanterns and everything. Red's always got a few extra spooks up his grubby old, fishy old sleeves and it's great to get in the spirit (woooooooo!)

We have to use Eventbrite tickets to avoid overloading the amount of people we have coming and the weather usually stays fair for us.

We're SOLD OUT  for this year now, but maybe next year you'll join us eh? or come in the summerholidays on a Wednesday night. Check out comments and photos at the Granny Cousins Ghost Walks of Old Poole Town Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/grannycousins/

LAND Latest Production with the National Trust

Written by

I've been working for 18 months on a new project called LAND that will be premiered at Corfe Castle - this Saturday and Sunday. LAND is part of the National Trust's: 'Land, Nature and Outdoors' strategy that is being piloted in the Purbecks, Swanage and Corfe area. The LON Strategy is to engage people in a ten years (and ongoing) relationship with the land management and conservation

I was able to be successful in receiving an Arts Council G4A grant that has ensured a high quality of scriptwriting, directing, making and design.

Starting at Corfe Castle on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 of September Colin Phillimore and myself will be bringing our work along with Amy Rose (Director), Sarah Corbett, Teresa Grimaldi (Puppets), Chris Perie (Puppeteering advice) alive to thousands of visitors over the next four successive weekends:

Performances are FREE, but you will need to pay the entrance fee for Corfe Castle or use your National Trust membership card.

I am very pleased to take the piece to the Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival where I have performed over the last 6 successive years:

Celebrating Shakespeare 2016

Written by

Another of my two great passions brought together. The Bard and bringing interactive and child-led storytelling to the under 5's. I love the disciplines of Vivian Gussin Paley, fantasy play and the Reggio Emilia Approach from Italy http://www.aneverydaystory.com/beginners-guide-to-reggio-emilia/main-principles/

I have been very pleased to be commissioned by the Society of Chief Librarians and partners, to provide storytelling for under 5's in Dorset Libraries.

"It's got to be fairies!" we said as I planned and devised with Colin Phillimore who set about creating: a 'Will 'o the wisp'ish Puck, assorted gossama fairies, The Mechanicals: Lion, Moon, Piramus and Thisbe - not forgetting the all important 'Wall'. Of course casting Piramus as a vegetable allows us to indulge one of our favourite Shakespeare's lines: "Eyes as green as Leeks!"

It's off to Christchurch and Blandford Libraries Tuesday 8 November and Bournemouth and Poole Libraries on Thursday 10 November.

Sorry "if we shadows have offended!"

I always enjoy working with the team at Wimborne Community Theatre and the Priests House Museum in Wimborne, Dorset. I have been collaborating with Tony and Gill Horitz for nearly 20 years and their work is always engaging and relevant, wanting to add to our understanding of culture, history and heritage.

'Tommy's Sisters' is a welcome chance to work on film with Dorset-based Alastair Nisbet, along with regular invitations from Arts University Bournemouth Director's courses. It's a very different acting discipline and a welcome diversion into another world of acting.

I am looking forward to viewing the finished product on Friday.
